tropical holiday day 5

woke early to go to the cultural centre
took our own bus -
each handgrip has an uplifting statement
the centre has a beautiful architecture

there was an exhibition preserving the memories
of older people

the grounds are designed as a journey
revealing important beliefs, plants and customs of native people

the gatekeeper saw us off

frangipani along the road

then back to town and more trees

and sunsets

we kicked off our shoes
and watched the sun set

passed another local on the way back

and had an alcohol free dinner

before an early night

tropical holiday day 4

woke early again for school
after the bus left we went for a walk - first the cathedral
impressive for a small island
someone lit the candles early
the locals always say hello as you walk about
the views are beautiful just from the street

I love the trees

tropical sunsets are a cliche for a reason

then back to the room for some wine before dinner
and cheese to finish

tropical holiday day 3

up early for my younger daughter's first day at school - the bus stop
the usual bright graffiti and a hint of tension
another hint here of colonialism
another brand of colonialism
the view out the front door of the school
roadside colour
locals relax in the sun
later we have dinner in our room
